CFT Bristol: Kindness without Fanfare

Case Study: Christ Faith Tabernacle Church gave out bags of food and hope

Christ Faith Tabernacle (CFT) is a small local church based in Fishponds, that set up “Bags of Hope” - “just a fancy name for a bag of provisions that we give out in the church.”

Originally set up to help and support church families and individuals cope with the changes in the economy, buy “Bags of Hope” has now grown beyond its original scope. 

“We thought why don't we extend this outside of the four walls of the church to to help people in the community as well” said Pastor Kehinde Benson.

News about the initiative started to spread through word of mouth and specially printed cards that were dropped through doors in the neighbourhood. The bags themselves are available to any one, whether or not they attend the church and can be collected after the church’s morning service “no questions asked.”

“We do it in a really discreet manner so that people don't feel a bit embarrassed. We don't want to make people uncomfortable because we've been there as well. So that's kind of like the main thing for us, just ensuring that we open our arms to the community.”

For Christ Faith Tabernacle, it’s that personal internal experience that has enabled them to see that a little help really encourages people

“We want to be that church that encourages people without necessarily having all the project fanfare kind of thing.”

“So that's the view that we have, we're caring for one another internally as a local church, we also want to extend that to Fishponds because Fishponds is part of our family as well.” 

“Bags of Hope” is just one of the many ideas and initiatives that Christ Faith Tabernacle have to love, serve and support the community of Fishponds.”

“The funding part has really helped us to be more generous and more sustainable.”
